In memoriam:
Marjan Jakob Stanič Mais (1946-2022)

After a brief and relentless illness, Marjan Jakob Stanič, founder and long-time Managing Director of MAIS Informacijski sistemi d.d., passed away. He led the company from its establishment in 1989 until 2022, shaping its growth and development over more than three decades.
Born in 1946 in Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia, he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana. He began his professional career at Slovenijales, where he spent nine years as an organization specialist, programmer, and Director of Information Systems. During the introduction of the first IBM computers at Slovenijales, he furthered his expertise through specialized training at the Intertrade IBM School in Radovljica.
In 1981, he became Project Manager of Slovenia Handels GmbH in Germany, gaining valuable international project experience. A year later, he relocated to Germany, where he spent the next ten years working on standard ERP systems and specialized business solutions. In 1985, together with a business partner, he founded MAiS Informationssysteme GmbH in Germany, where he developed his entrepreneurial and leadership skills. Four years later, he established MAIS Informacijski sistemi in Slovenia, successfully leading the company for the next 32 years. Throughout his career, he also lectured at various universities and participated in professional conferences and expert panels.
His career was defined by a pioneering and open-minded entrepreneurial spirit. He was a highly respected expert in business process reengineering and digital transformation, a trusted consultant in organizational design and optimization, an innovator, visionary, and exceptional leader. He approached every challenge with courage, insight, and determination, earning the respect of colleagues, partners, and clients alike.
He was a mentor to many young people who began their professional journey as interns at MAIS. Through his wealth of practical knowledge and experience, he also guided and supported many others as they took their first steps towards a successful career.
He taught all of us at MAIS a great deal as well. His contribution to the company was immeasurable, and without him, MAIS would not be the company it is today.
We will miss his energy, optimism, passion for his work and incredible drive – qualities that inspired and motivated all of us. His legacy, his knowledge and the values he shared with us will stay with us and continue to inspire us.
